06. ⏳ Time, Money & Enough
06. ⏳ Time, Money & Enough
The smallest map and the one I open most. I made it the day after I wrote Enough down as a value, with Housel finished on the arm of the sofa and a savings target that had, until that week, been a number somebody else might have chosen for me.
🧭 The Atlas
Money. The fund has a target because 💎 Enough is a number I have to choose: nobody hands it over, and an unchosen number only ever moves away. That note came out of 📕 The Psychology of Money and it is the most practical thing on this page.
Time. 💎 Time is the only thing I own that cannot be earned back is Seneca's ledger in my words. The working rule is ⚓ Time is the only thing I own, and the reading behind it is one letter a week of 📕 Moral Letters to Lucilius on Sunday mornings. Its harder companion is 💎 There will always be more to do than a life can hold, which I wrote in the hot flat weeks of July and which is, oddly, the more cheerful of the two.
What stands in the way. 💎 The obstacle in front of the work is part of the work is the finger, mostly. 💎 Dignity is not the same as never asking for anything is a butler, a lake, and a promotion I had been waiting to be offered.

❓ Open question
If the fund is full and the date is set, what is the next thing I will tell myself has to be finished before the real thing can start? I have a history. The number was only ever the first excuse in the queue.
