🔤DEFINITION AND ORIGIN
To take the first option that is good enough against a threshold set in advance, and stop looking. The alternative, optimising, means comparing everything, which costs more time and attention than most choices are worth.
Origin: 🏛️ Herbert A. Simon's word, a blend of satisfy and suffice. The idea is in 🔬 A Behavioral Model of Rational Choice (1955); the word itself he introduced in print the following year.
Why I kept it: written at the end of the flat weeks. I had spent a fortnight not choosing a topic for an issue because none was the best one. The concept note is 🧩 Satisficing.
