Promotion criteria for group product manager
๐ TL;DR / Quick Summary <div style="background: rgba(0,0,0,0.3); border: 1px dashed rgba(255,255,255,0.2); padding: 15px; border-radius: 8px; color: rgba(255,255,255,0.7); margin-bottom: 30px;"> Halden's written criteria for Group Product Manager as I understood them on 1 August, the morning after I asked for the role out loud. Fictional company; real second column. Each line has the evidence I had and the evidence I did not. Written for ๐ Promotion case for Group Product Manager and fed from Running record of outcomes. </div>
๐ ๏ธ Instructions / Core Material
| Criterion | What I have | What I do not have |
|---|---|---|
| Outcomes at scale | The Exceptions Inbox live for every customer; time to first triage measured before and after, with an interval | A second product. One launch is one data point |
| Judgment under pressure | The slip of 12 February and the rollback at 02:40, both written up | The slip is also a miss, depending on who reads it |
| Leads through others | Sam Okoye, my mentee, promoted on 1 September | Sam is one person. I have never managed a product manager |
| Cross-stream scope | The merged roadmap, written with Lucรญa and Greta | It is one stream's roadmap. Nothing of mine crosses into Billing or the Carrier Portal |
| Executive visibility | Dov knew my work in detail | Dov has left. Marguerite Aldous and Ivo Stanek know it second hand |
| Strategy | The one-page memo format; the scorecards opportunity | A written view of where the suite goes in three years |
| Customer trust | Rafael, Stellan and Ioana would each take a call | Nothing missing here. It is the line I am surest of |
The second column is longer than I would like, and I wrote it first.
โ ๏ธ Key Warnings / Constraints
- These are my paraphrases of a two-page document, checked with Katarina Brandl in a one-to-one in August. She corrected one: scope means across streams, not more of the same stream.
- 21 November. The committee named two gaps: cross-stream scope and executive visibility. Both were already in the right-hand column in August. Knowing a gap and closing it are different verbs.
- A criterion met is not a promise. The table says whether a case can be made, not how it will be heard.
