The title has an exclamation mark at the end of it, which I would not have chosen and have left off the file name. One man, no guests, working through the history of philosophy in order since 2013, for people who never studied it. He is enthusiastic in a way I would normally cross the road to avoid, and in July it was exactly what I could take.
I put it on for the loop on 2025-07-14-Monday, the second week of what became 🕯️ The flat weeks. The heat had only just broken, nothing was wrong and nothing was right. I could not read. I could walk and be told things. So for about two weeks I walked and was told about the Greeks who came after Aristotle: six episodes, twenty-five minutes each, one a walk.
Yes, that breaks the rule about no phone before the walk. I noted it at the time and let it stand. The walk happened, and that was the part worth protecting that month.
Why those episodes: every school in them starts from the same position I was in. The big structures have gone, the city no longer decides your life, and the question shrinks to how one person gets through a day in decent order.
- It did not fix anything.
- It gave the days a syllabus, which was enough.
It led back to Seneca's first letter and to ⚓ Time is the only thing I own, which I had written in February and stopped believing by June.
