Fennick Library extends evening hours

🎯TL;DR
The branch library in Fennick is open until 22:00 on weekdays from 8 September, on a one-year trial with two extra staff. The reading room stays open the whole time.
🤔WHY IT MATTERS
The autumn module starts on the 16th, and this gives it somewhere to live.
🔹 Statistics practice, 25 minutes is scheduled for Monday, Thursday and Sunday in term time. In the spring it ran at about two days in three, and nearly every miss was a Thursday: home from the office at half past six, dinner, and then a desk four metres from the sofa.
☕ Fennick Library reading room is six minutes from the door, has no sofa, and until this week was shut by the time I had eaten. Now it is not. The plan, written the same evening:
- Thursday: straight from the tram to the reading room, twenty-five minutes, then home.
- Monday: after dinner, same table if it is free. The one under the second window.
- Sunday: stays at home. The library is shut and I am not moving the weekly review.
It is a change of place and not a change of intention, which is the only kind of change to a habit that has ever worked for me.
The first weeks.
- Monday 8 September. Open late from tonight. Read the article at breakfast, which the no-news-before-noon experiment had started forbidding that same morning.
- Thursday 18th. First practice of the term. Straight from the tram. Regression to the mean, under lamps as good as the photograph.
- Monday 22nd. After dinner, with forearms still sore from Sarn Ridge. A man asleep over a chess book, otherwise empty.
- Thursday 25th. Twenty-five minutes, then stayed another twenty because nobody was waiting for the table.
- Monday 29th. Did not go. The case went in on Friday and I had nothing left for a regression line. One miss, noted.
One miss in four. James would object, see 💬 Never suffer an exception to occur. The study behind 💡 The median time to form a habit in one study was 66 days found that a single miss does not move the curve, and I am going with the study.
⚡QUICK JOTS
- Fictional local news, and the best of the year.
- From Monday 8 September 🏛️ Fennick Library stays open until 22:00 on weekdays. It used to shut at 19:00, and at 17:00 on Thursdays, which was the subject of a long local campaign and a petition I signed twice by accident.
- The council has funded two evening staff for a year as a trial. The Courier photographed the reading room with every lamp on.
- Edith had the news before the paper did. She had it from the woman on the lending desk in August and told me on the stairs.
- Mum, a school librarian all her working life, asked on Wednesday whether they were paying the evening staff properly. I did not know. She said to find out.
