🎯CORE THESIS
Discovery is not a phase before delivery. It is a weekly habit of the people building the product: talking to customers every week, in a small team of product, design and engineering, in pursuit of one outcome. The thing that keeps it honest is a picture, the 🧩 Opportunity solution tree, which runs from the outcome down through customer needs to possible solutions and the small tests that would tell you which to believe.
⚡QUICK JOTS
- Started on 1 September, the first day of block three and of Sam's new job title. Finished on Saturday the 13th. Twenty pages a night, in bed, which is the wrong place for a book with exercises in it.
- Read on purpose: 📂 Carrier Scorecards discovery opened on the 8th, and I wanted a method in my hands before the first interview and not after the fifth.
- Plain, methodical, a little relentless. It is a manual, and it reads like one.
- After Cagan in March, this is the how. He says discover continuously. She says: every week, a team of three, here is the diagram.
- Book thirteen for 🎯 Finish 16 books and keep notes on the ones that matter.
- A manual in copyright, so no lines from it. What I keep beside it is Seneca's 💬 Lay hold of to-day's task, which is the weekly-habit argument in one sentence, and 🏛️ W. Edwards Deming for the idea that improvement is a routine and not a project.
