Climbing weekend kit list

๐Ÿ“Œ TL;DR / Quick Summary <div style="background: rgba(0,0,0,0.3); border: 1px dashed rgba(255,255,255,0.2); padding: 15px; border-radius: 8px; color: rgba(255,255,255,0.7); margin-bottom: 30px;"> Written on Friday 19 September, the night before โœˆ๏ธ Sarn Ridge climbing weekend, on the hall floor with everything laid out and Pallet asleep on the sleeping bag. Annotated on Monday the 22nd, the night after, while my hands still remembered. Ticked means it came. The notes in italics are what I would tell the person who wrote the list. </div>

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Instructions / Core Material To climb in

  • Climbing shoes, the old resoled pair. Right call. Sandstone eats rubber.
  • Helmet, Caleb's spare. Wore it all of Saturday and felt silly for ten minutes only.
  • Chalk bag, bought on the 13th. Used a quarter of what I use indoors. Pavel does not like chalk on his rock.
  • Soft brush for the holds
  • Finger tape. Came home unopened. Write that down somewhere it will be found.
  • My fifth of the ๐ŸŽ’ Shared crash pad. It went in Dario's car and I carried it up once, which is my share of the carrying too.
  • A square of old carpet for wiping shoes. Hana's idea. Everybody borrowed it.
  • Skin balm. Forgot it. Hands like sandpaper by Saturday night. Never again.

For the hut (๐Ÿ›๏ธ Sarn Ridge climbers' hut: sixteen bunks, one stove)

  • Sleeping bag and a pillowcase to stuff with a jumper
  • Earplugs. Sixteen bunks. Eight of us and eight strangers, one of whom snored like a gate.
  • Head torch. The toilet is outside and so is the dark.
  • Mug, bowl, spoon
  • My share of the Saturday dinner: two onions, rice, a tin of tomatoes. Dinner for eight on one stove took two hours and was very good.
  • 28 euros in cash for the bunk
  • Hut slippers. Did not know this was a thing. Everyone else had them.

To wear

  • Trousers that can be ruined
  • Warm layer and a hat. Needed both at 07:00 on the top of the edge.
  • Waterproof. Stayed in the bag. It still comes.
  • Walking shoes for the path up
  • A second pair of socks. One pair, two days, wet grass on Sunday morning. Obvious now.

Everything else

  • Flask of coffee. Caleb brought tea regardless and offered me some with a look.
  • Water, two litres
  • Flapjacks from the wall's cafรฉ counter
  • Camera and one roll
  • Small first-aid pouch: plasters, wipes, the elastic bandage
  • A book. Left it out on purpose. Asleep by ten.

โš ๏ธ Key Warnings / Constraints

  • Three things for next time: skin balm, second socks, hut slippers. Everything else stays as it is.
  • Nothing new on the day. The shoes, the helmet strap and the rucksack were all worn at the wall first.
  • The list assumes two cars and somebody else's rope. If that changes, it is a different list, and I should ask Dario Conti rather than guess.
