Carrier-data interview guide

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Carrier-data interview guide

๐Ÿ’ก Use Case

  • Twelve questions for ๐Ÿ“Œ Run eight carrier-data interviews, written on 9 September and reordered after the second conversation.
  • One guide for both of us, so that Zainab Karimi's four interviews and my four can be laid side by side.
  • Each conversation ends up as one page in the format of ๐Ÿงญ Interview snapshot; the guide only gets us there.

How I use it

The order that worked, after two that did not:

  1. Tell me about the last time a carrier let you down. What happened first?
  2. How did you find out?
  3. What did you do in the next hour?
  4. Where did you write it down, if anywhere?
  5. When did you last decide between two carriers? What was on the table?
  6. Which numbers do you already keep about carriers?
  7. Which of those do you trust?
  8. Who else looks at them?
  9. If a carrier saw its own score, what would it do?
  10. What would make a score unfair?
  11. What have you stopped measuring, and why?
  12. What did I not ask?
What moved

The fairness question began at number 3 and killed two conversations. At number 10 people answer it at length. All of this feeds ๐Ÿ“‚ Carrier Scorecards discovery.

โš–๏ธ Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Twelve questions fit in forty minutes with room for silence.
  • It starts with a story, not an opinion. Question 1 asks about the last time, never about usually.

Cons

  • Question 9 leads the witness and I kept it anyway.
  • A guide makes a careful interviewer lazy. By interview six I was waiting for my turn.

๐Ÿ”„ Alternatives

  • No guide and good manners. Fine for one interview, useless for comparing eight.
  • A survey, which would have told us what people think they do.
